Checking Mail in Microsoft Entourage

What is it?

Entourage is the email program which is installed with the Microsoft Office for Macintosh computers. For this reason it is a popular choice. When in doubt you can always check with Microsoft Tech Support.

So, how do I check email with Entourage?

  • Open Entourage. If this is the very first time you've opened Entourage, a set up wizard should pop up. Skip to the Set Up Wizard instructions. If it doesn't, click on 'tools' at the top of your screen and select 'accounts'.
  • Click 'new' and then in the setup wizard window click on the 'manual setup' button at the bottom.
  • Select Pop or Imap and click OK (For an explaination of the differences between Pop and Imap, check out the information box on our Checking email page.)

  • Fill in your account information.
    • The Account name can be set however you like.
    • Enter your name as you would like it to appear on email you send where it says Name:
    • Enter your full cwru email address
    • Your account id is your Case Network ID, usually it is based on your initials followed by a number. For example, John Q. Public's account id is jqp99.
    • The Pop or Imap server is: mail.case.edu (If you selected POP in step three, it will say POP Server, if you selected IMAP it will say IMAP server.)
    • The SMTP server is: smtp.case.edu

  • If you do not connect directly to CASE, use ppp or vpn, you should use the smtp server of your internet service provider, otherwise you will need to click the 'advanced settings' button for the outgoing mail server and select 'my server requires authentication'. This will work on campus as well. You can also choose 'Use SSL' if you like, Secured Sockets Layering provides added security for your messages. Click the little square in the upper left corner to close the Advanced Settings window.
