Eudora for Multiple Users - Macintosh
Setting up Eudora to check email for more than one person.
For each user you will create a folder that will contain their mailbox and a shortcut to their Eudora settings. A word of caution: only one user at a time can be logged in to their Eudora mailbox!
Note: Make sure Eudora is closed before setting up multiple users!
- Set up and configure Eudora in the usual way for the first user.
- Look on the hard drive for the Eudora application. Make sure it is NOT in the System folder; move it elsewhere on the hard drive if necessary. (Many people store all of their network applications in a "Net" or "Case network" folder.)
- Find the Eudora folder IN the System folder. Move it out of the System folder and rename it. (Naming it for the user is an excellent idea such as "Bob's Mail.")
- Open this renamed folder and find the Eudora Settings file.
- Make a copy of this file and drag it to the desktop. This copy will be used to set up the computer for other users.
- Make an alias of the Eudora Settings file. Rename the ALIAS - not the file -- for the user "Bob". Put the alias on the desktop, in the launcher, or under the Apple menu for easy access. The first user will click on this alias to use Eudora.
- Open Simple Text and SAVE a newly created (blank) document in the System folder with the name Eudora Folder.
- On the hard drive--but not in the System folder-- create a new folder for each additional user of the computer. Name each folder for its user such as "Sue's Mail," "John's Mail," etc.
- Find the Eudora Settings copy file that you made and stored on your desktop. Make a copy for each user. Put one copy into each "Mail" folder that you have created.
- Open each folder and make an ALIAS of the Eudora Settings copy file.
- Rename each alias for the user "Sue," "John," etc.
- Drag the aliases to the desktop, launcher, or Apple menu for easy access.
- For each new user, launch Eudora with the alias you have just made and GO IMMEDIATELY to the Settings or Configuration menu. Adjust the settings for the appropriate user. (If you don't, the computer will use the username and password for that user's folder.)
- Each user will use their own alias to run Eudora. Each user's mailboxes reside in that user's folder. DO NOT START EUDORA FROM THE EUDORA ICON, start it from each user's Eudora Settings icon!! If you try to start Eudora from its application, it will tell you that you MUST start from a settings file. You will at that point have an option to search for the appropriate settings file.
