Eudora for Multiple Users

Setting up Eudora to check mail for more than one person.
There are two methods for multiple Eudoras on one Windows Computer.
  1. Install separate copies of the Eudora Program for each user
This works best for three or fewer users. You simply download the Eudora program three times and each time make certain that you save Eudora in a different spot on your computer. (Usually I recommend making a separate folder for each copy) then set up each Eudora as you would normally. This is simpler to set up, but can get confusing or awkward with many users.
  2. Set up one copy of Eudora for multiple use
This is a more elegant method, if somewhat more complicated to set up. Please make sure that Eudora is CLOSED before starting this procedure!
    1. Assuming that Eudora is already installed on your computer. Give the Eudora folder the name of the first person (for this lesson, our "users" names are eudora and eudora2).
    2. For each additional user, create a new folder on the hard drive and give it the name of the person.
    3. Copy the Eudora.ini file from the original folder, and paste it into each of the additional folders you have created. (The .ini extension might not show as in the example below.)

    4. Create an attach folder in each of the additional folders as well.
    5. Go to the original Eudora folder, highlight the eudora.exe icon (looks like a little mailbox) and right click on it, and create a shortcut. Drag the shortcut into the next person's folder and name it the same as the folder. If you have additional folders, create additional shortcuts and do the same.

    6. Within each user's folder, right click each of the shortcuts and click properties. Go to the shortcut tab.
    7. Fill in the target line to read: C:\eudora\eudora.exe C:\eudora2\eudora.ini where the eudora2 is the name you have given the folder.
Note: The first half of the path, C:\eudora\eudora.exe is to be named the same as your original folder.
Here are examples of what the original and additional users shortcut properties:

    8. Use the additional users shortcut to open Eudora and reconfigure the settings to reflect each user
(for instructions on configuring Eudora, refer to our Eudora page).
    9. You may also want to create shortcuts onto the desktop for each additional mailbox. You can do this by right clicking the mailbox within the folder, creating shortcut and dragging it to the desktop.
REMEMBER! - Only one Eudora can be open at any given time.
