Checking Email in Netscape

What is it?

Netscape Communicator is the email program built in to the full version of the Netscape Web Browser. A lot of people like it and find it easy to use, however no newer versions of Netscape Communicator have been released and the future of this email program is uncertain.

So, how do I check email with Netscape Communicator?

  1. Open Netscape mail. Click on edit from the command options at the top. When you have edit open, choose preferences.
  2. Choose mail and newsgroups option on the left hand side and click identity. Make sure to fill in the blanks according to your User ID

  3. Next, on the left side, choose mail servers. You will add the mail.cwru.edu server and configure it as follows:

  4. Be sure to fill in the smtp.cwru.edu server as well. *Note: If you are using an outside ISP to connect to the Internet you will need to use their send mail server. If your ISP does not have a send mail server, you can use smtp.case.edu if you select 'use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) or TLS for outgoing messages: if Possible'.

Click ok and you are now ready to send and receive email through Netscape mail!
