How To
How do I use Email?
- First find out what your email account is.
- Pick an email program. Most common email programs are Eudora, Outlook and Netscape Communicator. Outlook Express comes with the Windows Operating System, the full version of Outlook comes with the Microsoft Office package. Eudora is available as a free download from www.Eudora.com. Or you can use the Case email webpage: Mail.case.edu.
- Set it up to check your email! The different Email Programs have different ways to set them up. The instructions for the different Email Programs are listed below.
Attachments
Most email programs allow you to attach files to email messages. Most people use attachments to send things other than text, for example pictures or graphs. There are a couple very important things to know about attachments.
- You must have the program on your computer the attachment was written in to see it. For example if you sent a Microsoft Word Document as an email attachment, the person who receives it must have Microsoft Word installed on their computer to open it.
- Most Viruses are sent as Email Attachments! If you do not know who sent you an attachment and/or are not expecting an attachment from that person do not open it!
- There is a size limit for sending out email attachments. Email was never meant to send files back and forth, just short messages. If you want to send larger files use another file transfer method such as FTP. Most Instant Messaging programs include a File Transfer Program.
