Email Client Filters

You can use your Email program to sort incoming email messages.
Client Side Filters

Filters in Email clients are much more customizable. These filters are built in to the email program you use to check your Case email. They can be used to block messages, direct them to particular folders, or send automatic replies. Client side filters are particularly useful for sorting messages from email mailing lists.

How you set up Client Side Filters differs from email program to email program.

  • On Mail.case.edu click on 'options' and select 'Delegated Administrator.' You will need to enter your Case User ID and password. Click on 'Set Mail Filter.' Click 'Add' and you will be given the option of selecting the type of mail filter you want. Usually you want 'redirect unwanted messages.' Then select the folder you would like messages of a particular sort directed to. You can redirect mail to the Trash if you want to delete it automatically. Note that 'reject messages' will send a rejection email to the sender, which is often a fake address if you are rejecting mail from a virus or malicious spammer. We recommend you do NOT use the reject mail option.
  • In Eudora go to tools in the menu at the top and select filters.
  • In Outlook go to tools and select 'rules wizard.' Click 'new.' In Outlook 2003 there are many built in Junk mail options. Try right-clicking on a junk mail message and choose 'set as junk'.
