Using Spam Control on mail.case.edu (IMAP users)

If you have enabled Spam Control for your Case email account, you will need to make a JunkMail folder and enable direct delivery on mail.case.edu.

Note: If you primarily use Webmail to check your email or use IMAP, follow these instructions. If you use POP for your email, all mail flagged as junk mail will be kept on mail.case.edu, eventually your mailbox will fill if you do not periodically log on to mail.case.edu and delete junk mail. Also you should always review your JunkMail folder for any legitimate messages that may have been incorrectly flagged as JunkMail.

An explanation of the difference between POP and IMAP.

To create a folder on Mail.case.edu and set it up for the Mirapoint Junk Mail filter you will need to:

  1. Log on to the Mail.case.edu webpage.
  2. Click on 'folders' and then click on 'new'
    New
  3. In the window that pops up, type 'JunkMail' as the name of the folder. Capitalization counts! Click OK.
    Name the folder
  4. Now the JunkMail folder will appear on your list of folders. Click the radio button next to 'JunkMail' to select that folder.
    Select the folder
  5. At the top of the screen click 'Share'
    Share
  6. In the window that pops up, check 'enable direct delivery of mail to folder' and click OK.
Enable mail delivery to this folder
Your Filter is now configured! Now you need to turn on Spam Control.
  7. Go to the Spam Control web page. You will need to log in with your Case Network User ID and password. Click on 'Junk Mail Filter' and under 'Junk-mail options' select to enable junk-mail filtering (by default this will be set to disabled). Click OK.

If you have trouble logging on to the page, try another web browser. Case webmail works best with Internet Explorer version 6. The page opens automatically to the White list. Note that the White list will not take effect until you enable mail filtering.
  8. If you like, adjust your personal Accept and Reject lists.
Note: Accept and Reject Lists have no effect if Spam Control is disabled.
You are now using the Spam Control system to filter junk mail!
