Filtering Email & Junk Email

An Email Filter is an automated way of sorting your messages. Email filters can be set to transfer a message to a particular folder, or delete a message. People who receive a lot of messages every day like filters as a way of sorting what's important from what can wait till later.

Controlling Junk Email

Some filters are very useful in getting rid of unwanted junk emails (called Spam). Here at Case Western Reserve University we have a powerful set of filters built into our email system to detect and mark unwanted mail and block viruses. You can also make filters in your email program. The Virus filter is automatically on, however by default the Junk Mail Filter is disabled. You will need to enable the Spam Control using the instructions below.
