Directory Services in Eudora
Setting up Directory Service in Eudora for Windows
Note, these instructions were written using Eudora 5.2, earlier or later versions of Eudora may look somewhat different.
- Go to Tools --> Directory Services
- Under 'Protocols' Click on LDAP to highlight it and then click 'new database'
- Type whatever you would like to call the directory, we recommend Case LDAP, and enter the server name as LDAP.cwru.edu and the port number, 389.
- Click on the 'Search Options' tab. In the box labeled 'Search Base:' enter ou=People,o=cwru.edu,o=isp.
Note:This search string has no spaces in it and you must use cwru instead of Case for LDAP to work properly. - In the box labeled 'Word-wise Search Filter' you will tell Eudora how you want it to search the directory. We recommend setting the following: (|(cn=*^0*)(uid=*^0*)(mailAlternateAddress=*^0*)(mailEquivalentAddress=*^0*)). This tells Eudora to match whatever you type to the Common Name, User ID or Alternate email address in the beginning, middle or end. For example if you type 'art' it may return Arthur Smith, art2@case.edu, John Mayart, Sue Mcarthy, etc.
For best results highlight the search filter in bold above on this web page and copy (Ctrl c) and paste (Ctrl v) the search filter into the 'Word-wise Search Filter' field.
Click OK, you're done!
Using Directory Service in Eudora
Click on tools and choose Directory Services. Make sure that you have Case LDAP Checked on the left. Enter what you want to search for on the Query line, and click 'start'. Be careful, entering a single letter will return everyone with that letter in their name or email address! And take a long time. If you accidentally type too common a combination of letters, there is a stop button you can click to cancel the search. Select the address you want and click the 'to', 'cc' or 'bcc' buttons at the bottom of the window to send an email to that person.

Setting up Directory Service in Eudora for Macintosh
The Macintosh version of Eudora is just slightly different from the Windows.
