Directory Services in Outlook

These instructions for Outlook 2003 - older versions of Outlook may vary slightly.
Note, to ensure that Outlook will work properly with the Directory Service, you must have the latest service packs installed from Microsoft. If you have run Windows Update recently, you should be fine.

Setting up DirectoryServices in Outlook

  1. Go to tools and choose 'E-mail Accounts', and select 'Add a new directory or address book' click 'Next'
  2. Select 'Internet Directory Service (LDAP)' and click 'Next'
  3. For the Internet directory (LDAP) server, type in ldap.case.edu.

  4. Click on the 'More Settings' button and select the 'Search' tab.
  5. Enter o=isp for the Search base
    Note: this string is entered without spaces for the search to work properly.

  6. Click Apply, click OK and then click Next
  7. Click Finish, that's it! You will need to close out of Outlook and we recommend rebooting your computer before using LDAP Directory Services.

Using the Directory in Outlook

Create a new email message, in the to: field for the message type the name of the person you want to look up as it appears in the campus Directory (or as much of it as you remember). Then click the 'Check names' button at the top (circled in the image below). Or click on the TO: All matching names will appear and you can select the correct one from the list. For example if you type in 'Mary' you will get a list of everyone who has the letters M, A, R and Y in their name (in that order!).
