Mathematica for Macintosh
What is Key Mathematica?
Mathematica is a program used by several University math classes.
So, How do I install it?
- On the Software Center webpage, click on Macintosh Download next to Mathematica.
The download should automatically begin in a few seconds. If it doesn't, click the word 'here' to begin the download. (If you have OS X make sure you click the OS X download, it is the second arrow)
Your Download Manager will probably pop up.
- Once Mathematica has finished downloading stuffit expander should automatically run and then the drive mounting utility. You may now have two or three things on your desktop.
- If you have OS X, double click on the thing that looks like a disk drive called CWRU Mathematica for X 4.1.5. (If you have OS 9, skip this step)
Inside it there is an icon for Mathematica, yay! Leave this window open.
- If you have OS 9, double click on the installer
on your desktop and click the 'install' button. If you want to install it in a different location, you can choose to do so at this time by clicking on the arrows next to 'Install Location'
- Open up your hard drive,
or
and then double click on Applications
- Click on Mathematica and drag it into the Applications folder. (In OS 9 it will be in the system folder) There will be a copying files message. Yes, you can leave Mathematica where it is, but having it under Applications is tidier. You can delete the Mathematica installer things on your desktop, we're done with them.
- Note: Mathematica requires KeyAccess. If you have not already done so, you will need to Install Key Access.
Common Problems
- It says it can't find the license server
If this happens, a fairly useful work-around is to type in the address of the license server. This is lmgr1.case.edu. That's L for license, mgr for manager and the number one for those of you squinting and trying to decypher the name.
