Mathematica for Windows

What is Mathematica?

Mathematica is a program used by several University math classes.

So, How do I install it?

  1. On the Software Center webpage, click on Windows Download download icon next to Mathematica 4.1.
  2. The download should automatically begin in a few seconds. If it doesn't, click the word 'here' to begin the download.
  3. Once it's finished downloading, Double click on the install file, and click next at the welcome screen.
  4. Click next to install to the default directory, or change the installation directory and then click next.
  5. Click next and Click next again.
  6. Now you are on the Mathematica 4.1 Setup screen. Click continue.
  7. You're done! You must restart your computer before using Mathematica.
  8. Note: Mathematica requires KeyAccess. If you have not already done so, you will need to Install Key Access.

Common Problems

  • I got an error about cannot find Mathpass?
Mathpass is the file in Mathematica that stores your password. Sometimes this file gets out of date or corrupted. If you get a Mathpass password error simply search your computer for the Mathpass file and delete it. Mathematica will automatically create a new mathpass file the next time you restart it.
  • It says it can't find the license server!
If this happens, a fairly useful work-around is to type in the address of the license server. This is lmgr1.case.edu. That's L for license, mgr for manager and the number one for those of you squinting and trying to decypher the name.
