Office XP for Windows
Do I need Office?
An important question to ask yourself. Microsoft Office includes a lot of useful programs such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint. If you need one of these programs and do not already have it on your computer by all means, get Office XP! If you already have the programs that you need, you may want to keep the version you have, especially if you have an older computer or one without a lot of memory.
How do I do this?
- On the Software Center webpage, click on the Windows Download
icon next to Microsoft Office XP Professional. Careful! Make sure you click on OFFICE and Not the Windows XP Operating system!
- A file download window appears, prompting you to save the program to disk. Do so.
- Once the file webi.exe is downloaded, double-click on it to run it.
This will bring up a "Setting up web installer" window that will extract a file to the temp file. Make sure that the "Run after extraction: websetup.exe" box is checked, then click Extract.
- Once the file is extracted, the installer will ask if you want to run websetup.exe. Click Yes.
- You will be prompted to enter your Case ID and password once more. Click Connect.
- A "Software Center" window will report download progress before a Microsoft Office XP Setup window appears.
The setup window will prompt you for a user name, initials, and organization.
Note: For computers with multiple users, be sure to install Microsoft Office in the Administrator account. Each user will then be prompted for their own user name and initials as Office is opened in subsequent accounts. - Choose an Installation type (standard - under the Install Now option, Complete, or Custom. We recommend Standard though with a Custom install you can choose just those parts of Office you want, for example you can stop it from installing Outlook.) and an installation location. Click Next.
- The next window will show all of the Microsoft Office applications to be installed. Select Install to proceed.
- The software will install, and can be used as soon as the process is complete. You may wish to restart your computer.
- Check for Critical Updates from Microsoft. There is a link to the critical updates from the Software Center webpage (Click the asterisks * next to Office XP Download).
