Origin
What is Origin?
Origin is a scientific graphing and data analysis program used by some classes here at Case.
So, How do I install it?
- On the Software Center webpage, Click on Windows Download
next to Origin 5.0. The download should automatically begin in a few seconds. If it doesn't, click the word 'here' to begin the download.
- Double click on the install file and then Click extract.
- Click yes and then Click next on the welcome screen.
- Accept the End User License Agreement.
- Enter your name and click next.
- Click next to install to the default directory, or change the installation directory and then click next and Click next again.
- For computers with multiple user profiles, you may specify to install Origin so that only one user profile may access it, or so that it is available to all user profiles. Unless there is a specific need to restrict access to Origin, Common installation is recommended for all users. Make your selection and click next to continue.
- Click next, and Click next again. Click finish. And you're done!
- Note: Origin requires KeyAccess. If you have not already done so, you will need to Install Key Access.
Common Problems
- I have Windows 95, 98 or ME and I'm getting an error about not being able to connect to the Origin Server.
If this is happening to you, try this as a work around:
- Type \\liveupdate\origin61 either at the Start - Run prompt or in your web browser window. It will ask for a username and password. Type Origin as the Username and leave the Password blank.
- Go to the Software Center page and download/install Origin again.
After the program is installed, it should connect to the Origin share at
startup. If not, try to step one again before running Origin.
