Help Desk self-support tool available on my.case.edu
A self-service tool for assistance with technical problems is now available under the Help Desk tab on the Case portal.
Windows update advisory
Users of Windows operating systems are advised that a new worm is predicted to appear that will take advantage of a flaw that exists in all supported versions of Windows. This flaw was corrected in the security patches released by Microsoft on Tuesday, August 9th. This worm can infect a system without any action being taken by the user (e.g., opening an e-mail attachment). More under "Read on".
Dell recalls some types of laptop batteries
Dell has issued a voluntary recall on some batteries sold with its laptops in the Latitude, Inspiron, XPS, and Precision Mobile Workstations. These batteries, under rare circumstances, have a risk of overheating and catching fire. Click "Read On" for details.
SOLAR outage for Macs
There is an outage for SOLAR that affects Macs only. Users may get an error “Invalid Published File” when trying to connect to the tool. This does not affect the Windows SOLAR client. Click "Read On" for details.

Apple issues battery recall
Apple has issued a recall for some laptop batteries due to rare circumstances that cause the batteries to overheat. Affected computers include the 12-inch iBook G4, the 12-inch PowerBook G4, and the 15-inch PowerBook G4.

OneCommunity Wireless Broadband Project
A demonstration of the wireless broadband project which is intended to bring wireless networking to the community was staged in conjunction with Case for Community Day on Wednesday, September 13.

New version of Internet Explorer Web Browser released
Microsoft has released a new version of the Internet Explorer web browser.
Customer Satisfaction Survey Improvement
The PerceptIS Customer Satisfaction Survey which is sent out via email for every resolved Helpdesk ticket has been improved. Your feedback is important to us and is key to continual efforts to improve support on campus.
Intermittent Issues Sending Email to AoL or Yahoo accounts from Case
Members of the campus community have reported periodic problems sending email to AoL.com or Yahoo.com addresses (or receiving email from Case accounts to their AoL or Yahool addresses.) This is a known issue caused by Junk Email (called Spam) control mechanisms used by the two companies.
Account Alert messages
Over the weekend, a number of users received email messages claiming to be from `abuse@case.edu' with the subject `Account Alert'. The message asks the recipient to `confirm your e-mail'. This is a "phishing" attack. The messages are not legitimate and should be discarded.
Student Financial Aid website under construction
The financial aid website is still being prepared for 2007. The Office of University Financial Aid estimates that the website will be ready by February 1st. As a result of this preparation, no students or parents will be to log in or see their financial aid information. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Software Center Download Reset Request Form
The Software Center has implemented a way to reset downloads in case downloads fail to complete and the option to download is grayed out. Click "Read On" for details.

Symantec Antivirus versions 10.1.5 and 10.2
There has been some confusion recently regarding recent Symantec version updates. Please note that version 10.2 is for Windows Vista ONLY and 10.1.5 is for older Windows operating systems.
ATTN: New Users with Windows Vista
Please note that the network registration procedure normally used through http://setup.case.edu is not working for some computers with Vista installed.

Users with these systems should open a web browser and type https://172.23.8.36 and follow the instructions from there.
Upcoming help.case.edu upgrade
Over the next couple of months, PerceptIS will be moving help.case.edu to a new content management system.
Updated Telecom Billing Information
The Pinnacle billing system web interface has been upgraded. The documentation for the new interface can be found at http://help.case.edu/key/telecommun
