Administrative Aliases

Can I get an email address for my department or group?

Only individuals are assigned an e-mail account. However, you can have a Mailing List or Administrative Alias with a name of your choosing pointing to specified member of the department or group. Request an Administrative Alias. We also have a page about Mailing Lists.

Can a student own a Mailing List or Administrative Alias?

Yes, as long as a current faculty or staff member is a co-owner of the Mailing List or Administrative Alias.

Can I send an attachment to a Mailing list or alias?

Of course! But keep the size small. When you are sending to a group of people you are taxing the mail servers more and more likely to fill someone's mailbox. A general rule of etiquette is to keep messages sent to groups small. You can send up to 4 megabyte attachments, but proper etiquette demands smaller. As a rule of thumb only send one small image, graphic or short (less than two pages) document.
