Network Security Policy for External Entities
version 1.0.0, 2003-10-27
Christopher Ursich

Introduction

In connection with University business, it is sometimes necessary for
external entities such as vendors or other non-University personnel to be
granted greater access to the Case network than is granted to the general
Internet public. This document describes ITS Network Security's policy
regarding such access.

Policy text

External entities may be granted access to Case non-public network
resources only by ITS. End-users may not do so of their own accord.
Network Security will grant an external entity the minimum degree of
enhanced access as is necessary for the entity to practically carry out
its business with the University. The access will be channeled through
and implemented as part of the standard University network security
mechanisms (Internet firewall, etc.), and will not be implemented by some
means that bypasses these mechanisms, such as VPN or user accounts not
managed by ITS.
